I am happy to announce that I will be making my HBO debut on an episode of Boardwalk Empire next season! Due to confidentiality agreements I cannot divulge more than that, but I am thrilled to join the cast of this incredible show!

My previous experience with the “T” is for Tom series, readings all of Tom Stoppard’s radio plays, was a play called Where Are They Now?. It is currently available on the WNYC website here.

The next play that I will be reading is called In The Native State, and it will be read before a live audience and then broadcast at a later date. I will be sure to post the link to the program, when it is available.

Steven Fechter is a funny guy. Some of you may or may not know this, as perhaps you are more familiar with his other works, The Woodsman, The Commission, and my previous experience with him, The Golden Aurora. But, it’s true and the proof is Shakespeare’s Slave.

Resonance Ensemble commissioned a companion piece to their upcoming innovative production of H4, a modern re-telling of Henry IV parts 1 and 2. Steven rose to the challenge of matching Will, and Shakespeare’s Slave is the fruit of that labor. Slave is a dark comedic look at Elizabethan England and a successful, self-deprecating writer who has lost his muse…and all of his money. How will he overcome this hump, and go on to write his best plays?

I am proud to tread the boards with this wonderful ensemble and hope to see you there as I take on the role of the Great Bard himself, William Shakespeare.

In May, I booked day on the up-coming independent film, FROM THE HEAD, written, directed by and starring the powerful George Griffith. I had a blast with P.J. Marino and George on set, in my old hood in Los Feliz/ Silverlake. (Just a stone’s throw from Sunset Junction, and the home of LA coffee mecca Intelligentsia Coffee. Mmmm….)

The film “is loosely based on Griffith’s experiences as a bathroom attendant in a New York City strip club in the mid-’90s…and his interaction with the 60-plus idiosyncratic characters who enter the bathroom on one afternoon.”

Here’s a pic from the end of the day, and an article that just came out in Variety about the film.

The plan at the time of shooting was to submit the film to festivals next year. Personally I think with the script being so strong and the unconventional way in which it was shot, it would be shocking if George didn’t get a whole slew of screenings out of this one… here’s hoping!

Restless Souls and Haunted Spirits
by Chiori Miyagawa
directed by Sarah Cameron Sunde
dramaturg: Emily Morse

Performed by: Godfrey Simmons, David L. Townsend, Maria Oliveras, Monique Vukovic, April Matthis and Jake Manabat with Elizabeth Brown – Shakuhachi (Japanese Bamboo Flute) player

In Restless Souls and Haunted Spirits, a war is fought on a shore, a crazy woman looks for her kidnapped son at a bus station, a father and son have a fall out which results in the son becoming blind and homeless, parents conspire to break up their daughter’s relationship by drowning her lover, a poor old man falls in love with a wealthy young girl and commits suicide; and life goes on, people bumping into one another before and after death and somewhere in between. It is a comic-tragedy based on ancient human attachments, set in the present time somewhere like the USA, narrated by a woman with tragic hair.
